Traditional pantomime season may be over but a new show will put a fresh take on the genre.

Stars from Ru Paul’s Drag Race, the West End, and television are bringing their adults-only version of Cinderella to Carlisle next month.

Sinderella will follow the timeless story of Cinderella as she tries to evade her evil-step sisters so she can make it to the ball on time.

David Potts, who is playing Dandini, said: “Rehearsals are in full swing, we have a really good cast and the show is super funny.

“We’ve been laughing non-stop, everyone is in for a real treat.”

It is the first time anyone from Ru Paul’s Drag Race will star in a British pantomime and the line-up certainly does not disappoint.

Divina De Campo, Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK runner-up, will be playing the wicked stepmother trying to stop Cinderella from making it to the ball.

She will star alongside Stacy Layne Matthews, also from Ru Paul’s Drag Race, and Jamie Campbell, the inspiration and star of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Last year, the adult pantomime production team put together a version of Jack and the Beanstalk which starred Austin Armacost, from Celebrity Big Brother, and Britain’s Got Talent star Danny Beard.

In a twist of fate, the Sands Centre’s 2020 pantomime will also be Cinderella.

The announcement was made just a few days after the curtain closed on their 2019 pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Niall Sanderson, from the marketing and operations team at the Sands Centre, told the News & Star at the time: “Panto is our favourite time of year at The Sands, and following an extremely successful run of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for 2019 we are delighted to announce that the world’s best known and most loved pantomime, Cinderella, will be brought to life in Carlisle in 2020.”

Sinderella will be touring the UK from January 17 and will be at the Sands Centre on February 14.

There is the option to upgrade regular tickets to include a meet and greet with cast members for an extra £15.
