A MAJOR network provider is hoping to erect a telephone mast just outside Brampton, that will help the emergency services.

EE has submitted plans with Carlisle City Council to build a phone mast and supporting buildings by How Mill.

The mast will form part of the EE Emergency Services Network, which is a scheme that the phone company runs in coordination with the Home Office.

A spokesman for EE said: “As part of our continued commitment to build a resilient emergency services network and improve rural connectivity, we are building a new 4G mobile site in Carlisle.

“Our investment to expand coverage in the area will have a significant impact for both the local community and the emergency services, providing greater access to a range of mobile broadband and public safety services.”

The area was chosen as it could provide an uninterrupted signal to the emergency services in the immediate area.

Other sites across the region were considered for the mast but none of them could provide a similar level of coverage that the How Mill site could.

EE is hoping to begin building the mast in the first half of this year with the service available towards the end.
