A new Cleator Moor resident is bringing her enthusiasm for exercise to the town and getting people moving.

Vickie Adams, 38, has launched a running group in Cleator Moor after moving up from Essex in September.

The personal trainer has been overwhelmed by the response of locals who have embraced the new initiative, which started off as a way for her to get out and meet people.

"Since I have lived here, I haven't really got anyone to go out with," she said. "I wanted to go running but I didn't want to go out in the dark on my own because I didn't know where I was going."

After posting on Facebook calling for people to join her, Vickie said her phone has not stopped going.

"I put it out there that I was looking for a bit of company to go for a run. I can't believe the response. I'm so pleased."

Vickie is being joined by around 50 to 60 people and has now set up a dedicated Facebook group for members, which she says has "gone wild".

The mum-of-three said: "It's just a group of people coming together to have a run. It's just to get people out. A lot of people haven't been running before. I've stressed to everyone there's no pressure.

"With a gym membership, you feel the pressure to go, but with this you don't. When there's no pressure you can have a laugh and enjoy it. It's free - I don't want to make any money from it.

"One lady has not long lost her husband and she says it gives her something to do and she's not sat on her own. Everyone has been amazing. The atmosphere is amazing. Everyone has been so friendly. I can't tell you how welcoming people have been."

The group meets at Cleator Moor Square on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm. Search for Cleator Moor running group on Facebook.
