A DERELICT social services building has been demolished to pave the way for a new car park in central Workington.
The building on New Oxford Street was deemed a dangerous structure last month, closing a main road for a time as high winds made its roof unsafe.
Work began on the building in early January and temporary traffic lights are still in place on Oxford Street.
The building once housed the county council’s adult social care and children’s services departments. A 54-space car park with three disabled bays and 15 extra spaces for bicycles is to be built on the site.
