"The offenders will be prosecuted".

That is the message of Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service after they were forced to tackle yet another deliberate fire in Carlisle.

Crews from Carlisle East and Carlisle West Fire Stations were called to a property at Stonegarth in the Morton area of the city at about 3am this morning (Jan 18).

Police are now investigating the blaze, which firefighters say involved recycling containers that were piled on the doorstep being deliberately set on fire.

It was the second deliberate fire of the night, after crews were also called to a wheelie bin fire in Chances Park.

Swift actions from the teams extinguished the blaze with a hosereel, preventing the fire from spreading.

A Carlisle East Fire Station spokesman said: "Obviously this could have had a tragic ending, and three people were in the property at the time.

"Police are investigating, and the offenders will be prosecuted."
