A popular landlord is set for pastures new as he swaps one pub for another.

Travellers Rest landlord Julian Bone is leaving the popular pub and eaterie to take up a new challenge at The Ship, at Dovenby.

Mr Bone said on a Facebook post that the Travellers will close on Sunday following Sunday lunch. And he will then open up at Dovenby in a couple of weeks.

His post read: “It’s been a rollercoaster ride for five years. My contract has expired and far, far too much work needs invested in the place for me to continue. So I’ve decided to call it a day.

“I wasn’t sure what I was going to do next but another place came up literally last week so I went for it and got it.”

He paid tribute to his staff who he called ‘amazing’ and all his customers

Mr Bone said he hopes to bring a similar atmosphere and warm welcome at The Ship, where he is hoping to have the same food on offer with new choices also being introduced.

Mr Bone added that it was a ‘big challenge’ and that he was anxious but was looking forward to it.

He is holding a leaving party at the Travellers Rest on Sunday from 4.30pm, with entertainment from Stella the Fella and all are welcome.
