A LANDSLIDE has a closed a Cumbria road leaving workers battling to make it safe.

The incident was reported earlier today, Tuesday, February 11, at the C2058, Newlands Pass, Buttermere.

It is understood that the location is just before the village of Buttermere.

A spokesperson from Highways at Cumbria County Council said: "An Emergency road closure is currently in place on Newlands Pass, Buttermere due to a landslide, this road will remain closed until it is safe for full access."

He added that the site has been inspected and the likely cause is damage done during Storm Ciara over the weekend.

Other roads currently closed in the county include the C1013 A69 Crosby to Newby Grange and the B5300 Dubmill Point.

Roads formerly closed in the wake of the storm that have now reopened include C1016 Kingmoor Railway Bridge, the B6263 Warwick Bridge to Wetheral, C1013 A69 Corby Hill to Newby East, Rickerby Park Carlisle & St Ninnions and the B5322 St John's in the Vale near Bram Cragg Farm.
