A SCHOOL has been forced to close over safety fears, after a flood warning was issued.
Bowness-on-Solway Primary School, on Barwise Brow, Silloth, will close at 12.30pm today, Wednesday.
Children are being sent home after a flood warning was put in place for the Cumbria coastline, from Gretna to Silloth including Port Carlisle, Skinburness and Rockcliffe.
A spokesman for the county council said: "It’s a precautionary measure as high tide is expected around 12 noon. Interests of safety of staff and pupils head has made decision to close."
The high tide will affect the safety of the children and staff and bus drivers as travelling will be difficult, therefore the decision has been taken to close the school.
