A MAN who was a teacher at a west Cumbrian school has appeared in court to answer charges of historical sex offences.

Mark Craster-Chambers, 53, of Stratford-upon-Avon, has appeared at the magistrates court in Workington on Friday.

He denied two counts of engaging in sexual activity, other than intercourse, with an underage girl.

Magistrates heard at the time of the alleged offences, which are said to have happened in the 2000s, he was in a position of trust in relation to the girl.

Craster-Chambers, who was wearing a grey suit over a grey jumper, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and to enter his plea.

Despite initially asking to address the court, he was advised by solicitor John Cooper, who was representing him, that we would have a chance to have his say at the next hearing.

Craster-Chambers is due to appear at the crown court in Carlisle on March 25.

He was placed on unconditional bail until the next hearing.
