Whitchurch Town Council have announced that the current youth groups, which meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings will continue until the end of the Summer Term.

Following discussions with Shropshire Council, they have agreed to provide funding for Shropshire Youth Association to continue running these sessions until July 17.

Whitchurch Town Council have budgeted £15,000 in 2020-2021 to pay for term-time youth work.

The town council will now be issuing an invitation to quote for the work to relevant organisations in good time for the new provision to start.

Mayor of Whitchurch, Councillor Bev Duffy said the move will mean the continued delivery of youth work in the town.

"Whitchurch Town Council will ensure delivery and resourcing of open access youth groups who will work with the part-time outreach youth support workers starting in the autumn term," said Cllr Duffy.

In the new model Shropshire Council will work with partners, including Whitchurch Town Council, to design and deliver a localised model of youth provision maximising the use of all available resources and funding.

This new model will see Shropshire Council employing a strategic lead for youth support who will develop the youth partnership model and manage a team of three professionally qualified youth workers who, in turn, will manage teams of part-time workers locally.
