COCKERMOUTH town councillors are hoping the poet laureate will be able visit the town library as part of a national tour.
Simon Armitage is poet laureate until 2029 during which time he will be touring libraries. Town councillors agreed to apply for him to visit the town.
Councillor Richard Watson said: "With our library situated only 50 yards from Wordsworth House you'd think we would have a good chance of being successful."
