A VILLAGE choir will be staging a concert to raise funds for an historic Workington church.

The Oswald Singers, from Dean, will be performing in Our Lady and St Michael’s Church. Their music will include Rutter’s Requiem and other sacred and secular music.

All the proceeds will go to the church's preservation project. The Grade 11 listed Pugin church was built between 1873 and 1875 and is on English Heritage's "at risk register".

A spokesman from The Oswald Singers said: "The project is to restore the church and tell the story of its place in history within the wider community. It will involve local volunteers who will gain new skills and add value to the cultural and heritage life of the town."

There are 19 members in the choir, the conductor is Mark Hazzard and accompanist is Christopher Lamb.

The concert will take place on Friday, March 13, at 7.30pm.

Tickets (£10, under 16s free) are available from Sybil Worsley on 01946 861580 or on the door.
