A NEW shareholder committee is due to be set up following Allerdale council’s decision to bring some services in-house.

The authority recently agreed to create a new council-owned waste company to deliver bin collection services in the area.

And now, the council’s executive committee has agreed to set-up a new Executive Shareholder Committee to fulfil the authority’s role as sole shareholder in current and future Local Authority Trading Companies, such as Allerdale Waste Services.

Councillor Tony Markley, executive member with responsibility for environmental services, said: “I’m really looking forward to the start of operations under this new company so that we can take greater control over the service, provide greater efficiencies and a flexible approach to the services on offer.”

As a shareholder, the council’s role is not to manage the business.

The management of the company will be in the hands of the new company’s board and staff.
