MORE Cockermouth businesses have closed.

The New Bookshop, on Main Street, has shut. The Toy Shop will close tomorrow.

Veeva and Wild Zucchinnis, on Station Street, have both closed.

Bookshop owner Catherine Hetherington said this morning: "It is with huge sadness that I have decided to now close the bookshop.

"I’ll be in today and some of this week to sort out orders and deliveries, I’m happy to deliver locally or post things out."

The Toy Shop will close at 4pm tomorrow.

Owners Jonty and Fiona Chippendale said: "Along with many other businesses, large and small, we have concluded that social responsibility takes preference over profit.

"As a non-essential retailer we need to do the right thing by our staff, our customers and ourselves.

"As of Tuesday 4pm The Toy Shop will be closed until conditions warrant it reopening."

Manon Plouffe owns Wild Zucchinis Bistro. "Following suit with other food providers, we have decided for your protection and ours to stop our takeaway service.

"However, we will carry on taking your orders and deliver them to you at no cost. If you are near enough (so it won't get cold during travel) and fancy a nice coffee we shall happily bring it to you."

Veeva manager Gareth Williams said this morning: "Sadly we must announce that from today we are fully closed, we obviously must follow government guidelines and for us this includes takeaways also.

"We take the health and safety of our customers and our staff very seriously so after discussions we have decided to fully close."
