The Government has ordered the closure of a wide range of businesses, services and public spaces, in the latest round of coronavirus measures.

Which shops are closed?

  • 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan - Cumbria - The office is closed but the team are open and available for our clients offering virtual support and free deliveries or collection subject to social distancing rules. 
  • Allerdale Council - Have closed contact centres to the public. Services remain available online, through the 'myAllerdale' app, via webchat or by ringing 0303 123 1702.
  • Argos - All standalone stores are closed, while those situated inside Sainsbury's stores will remain open. 
  • Ashbridge & Brown, Carlisle - Closed until further notice. Online sales coming soon.
  • Beadle & Hill, Carlisle - Closed.
  • Best Dressed Kidz, Carlisle - Closed. Order online.
  • Bookends, Carlisle - Closed until further notice. Shop closed but open for phone orders on 01228 529067. Home doorstep delivery in Carlisle, post-free further afield.
  • Boots Opticians and Hearingcare stores across the UK will also temporarily close. A small number of Boots Opticians stores will remain open to care for those with essential eye care needs.
  • British Heart Foundation - All shops are closed until further notice.
  • Bruce & Luke’s - Donut delivery via Uber Eats.
  • Carlisle Brass - Ceased training for the next three weeks. Today (March 24) will be the last day for placing orders.
  • Carlisle City Council - All play areas, open-air exercise areas, multi-use games areas and the skate park are closed until further notice. 
  • Castle Chocolates, Carlisle - Free delivery service within Carlisle (15 mile radius). See Facebook or website for online orders.
  • Chivers Sports, Carlisle - Closed. Sales online.
  • Circle Bar, Carlisle - Starting to offer deliveries from March 24.
  • Costa Coffee - All stores shut until further notice.
  • Cumberland Building Society, Denton Holme - Closed.
  • Cumbria Tech, Carlisle - Closed.
  • Digital Photo Express, Carlisle - Closed doors to customers. You can still order photos online and they will be delivered free via first class post. You can also post your colour 35mm film for development & printing on our mail order service. Some other items by mail order by phone - 01228 558505.

  • House of Malt, Carlisle - Closed, but is offering free deliveries of Lakes Gin to CA postcodes.
  • The Market Hall, Carlisle - All communal eating areas closed.

  • The Little Gin Shop, Carlisle - Closed until further notice.

  • Pioneer (Fisher Street, Carlisle) - Closed until further notice. Pioneer Foodstore -  Phone 01228 403410 between 7am and 3pm to place your order. Free delivery to southern Scotland and northern England.

  • Sports Direct - Despite initially saying their stores would open, they have now agreed to follow Government advice. All Sports Direct and Evans Cycles stores will not open today.
  • Tebay Services - Quick Kitchens remain open for homemade takeaway food and drinks. Farmshop, Butchery and Filling Station remains open. All areas of the business have social distancing measures in place.
  • Timpson outlets - All stores closed.
  • Toys n’ Tech, Carlisle - Closed.
  • Tullie House, Carlisle - Closed.
  • Vinyl Cafe, Carlisle - Closed. 
  • Warwick Bazaar, Carlisle - Closed. Check out their Ebay shop.
  • Warwick Road Bed Centre, Carlisle - Closed
  • Waterstones - All storos closed.

Which stores/spaces will remain open?

  • Argos - Stores situated inside Sainsbury's will remain open.
  • Bampton Shop, Tea Room and Post Office - Intends to keep to the same opening hours.
  • Boots - Stores and pharmacies remain open, including in Carlisle which is restricted to 10 customers at a time.
  • B&Q - Currently closed but will soon open after the Government classed the DIY and Hardware store sector as an essential retailer.
  • Carlisle City Council - Parks and green spaces will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.
  • Crown, Stanwix - Not-for-profit home deliveries to elderly. Meals are £3.75. Order by 6pm for delivery next day. Call 01228 512789.
  • Cumbria County Council - ceremonies such as marriages and civil ceremonies delivered by Cumbria Registration Service will not be taking place until further notice.
  • Dobies Garden Centres - Remain open.
  • Infinity Print Solutions, Carlisle - asking for only two customers in the store at any one time.
  • M&S - Stores remain open.
  • Old Bank (Fisher Street, Carlisle) - Now offering takeouts and deliveries. Details on their Facebook page.
  • Palace Cycles, Carlisle - Open but call 01228 523142 with queries. Happy to offer local deliveries and pickups.
  • Post Office - Most branches remain open.
  • Scotby Cycles, Carlisle - Open as normal.
  • Supermarkets - All remain open.
