EVERYBODY loves a takeaway, whether it’s the British classic fish and chips, kebab, Chinese, pizza or Indian.
But the coronavirus lockdown has put paid to many people’s weekly treat as scores of fast food outlets temporarily close down to stop the virus from spreading.
So this week we asked readers of the Times & Star on Facebook to give their views on the takeaways they are most looking forward to visiting after the pandemic.
Here in Cumbria we’re blessed with plenty of choice with some establishments being firm favourites.
So, in no particular order, here are some of the best takeaways in the Workington that you may like to try after the lockdown has been lifted.
1PEDROS, KING STREET, WORKINGTON
The outlet bills itself as the "only takeaway in Workington serving fish and chips, kebabs, pizza's, burgers and wraps"
One customer said: "Chilli sauce to die for - delicious never even tasted the same in Turkish kebabs, can' t fault them.
Made with pride traditional fish and chips and many more pizzas."
Another, in January, said: "Ordered a meal deal with really fast delivery and food was perfectly cooked to what I asked for.
"Very polite on the phone and helped me choose my pizza toppings. Five stars."
On Monday the owner announced on facebook that it remains open for delivery
It's temporary opening hours are from 4 pm till 10.45 pm.
2 CAPTAIN NELSON TAVERN, IRISH STREET, MARYPORT
The establishment has gleaming reviews on Tripadvisor.
One customer said: "The food is absolutely amazing, friendly staff, a warm welcome and nothing too much trouble. "The veggie menu is outstanding - well done all captain nelson team, can't wait to come for supper when your back open."
On Monday the owners, on Facebook, said they stopped doing takeaway meals because of the Coronavirus and have closed until further notice
3 MASALA CORNER, JOHN STREET, WORKINGTON
The restaurant and takeaway is another with rave reviews on Tripadvisor.
One patron, who visited the establishment last month said: "Well although this was my first visit I can honestly say it won't be our last.
"Food absolutely outstanding and service second to none.
"Hats off to the chef as it really was a five star meal.
"We wish you all the success for the future and will see you again real soon."
4 BENGAL SPICE, JANE STREET, WORKINGTON
As the name suggests that restaurant and takeaway specialising in food from the Indian sub continent.
One customer said: "Service was great and portion sizes are big, they will look after you."
5 CROSS QUAYS FISH AND CHIPS, KING STREET, MARYPORT
A customer said: "Busy little chip shop. The fish was freshly battered.
"Lovely chips and mushy peas. I've had pie and gravy before. Shall be calling again."
