A COCKERMOUTH pharmacy was delighted with the response when it appealed for help to protect its hardworking staff.

Perspex screens have now been made and installed in Allisons Chemist. Pharmacist director Nat Mitchell said: “Immediately after I appealed for help on Facebook I was inundated with recommendations and offers of help.

“Perspex was donated and cut to size and an offer to make frames quickly followed.

“The perspex was supplied by James Walker with specific help from their employees Janice Murphy and Steven Simpson. They were then made into frames by Jonathan Taylor Joinery who turned them around overnight.

“I’ve been blown away by the selfless offers of help we’ve received and what people have done for us. It won’t be forgotten.”

The shop team has been split into two groups in order to protect the service.

“We’ve had cakes made for us and offers of hot drinks to keep us going. There are some truly lovely people out there and we are very grateful,” said Mr Mitchell.

“I can’t speak highly enough of our team. We are trying to keep things as ‘normal’ as possible as what we do needs to be controlled and at the moment we are achieving that, even if we are pedalling like mad behind the scenes."
