BUSINESSES and the town council have been doing their bit to spread some cheer and thank key workers in these difficult times.

On Cockermouth Main Street blue lights have been placed on a tree by the town council, to show their gratitude for hardworking NHS staff.

Wishes, a card and gift shop, is closed but has decorated its window with balloons and rainbow pictures which it received.

Owner Victoria Robinson is working from home and taking orders through the Facebook page.

"I'm a firm believer in bringing the community together and wanted to do what I could to add a bit of colour to the town and show our support," said Victoria.

Grisdales Estate Agents, which has offices in Whitehaven, Workington and Cockermouth, appealed to people to send their rainbow pictures, showing their support for the NHS and key workers.

The pictures were then posted in their shop windows and on their Facebook page.

Managing director Rachel Ritson said: “We got a great response. We just thought it was a lovely way of involving the local children and bringing a smile to people’s faces and supporting the NHS.”
