FIREFIGHTERS were called to a "deliberate" fire in the open at a Cumbrian nature reserve.
A crew from Carlisle West Fire Station were called at about 2pm on Tuesday to the blaze at Kingmoor Nature Reserve in the Belah area of the city.
A spokesman for the station said: "We are asking people to stay away from public areas and avoid lighting fires in open spaces.
"Police had seen them, with the intelligence saying it was a male and female."
He urged people not to light fires amongst grass and bushes and that anyone who is doing controlled burning - for example in their garden - should kept a hosepipe nearby throughout the burning.
