A creative Cockermouth woman has been ensuring key workers know they are supported - whilst also raising vital funds.

Lindsey Thomas's beautiful bows can be seen far and wide. They are everywhere, from front doors and wagons to castle gates, drain pipes and wheelie bins.

Lindsey is a florist and usually works at Floral Boutique, on Market Place. When she was put on furlough she wondered what she could do with her free time to support key workers.

"I had some blue ribbon so thought I would make some bows which people could use to show their support for the NHS. I left 10 at Slatefell stores and they went within an hour," said the mum of four.

"So I did some more, purple for carers, red for the fire service and green for the paramedics. I then combined them all into one rainbow bow and asked people to make a donation."

They were a huge hit and within three weeks about 1,000 had been sold, raising £2,750 for the NHS. Lady Egremont, of Cockermouth Castle, got in touch to buy some.

Refuse wagon and delivery drivers and local companies have also put them on their vehicles, to show their support.

Lindsay also turned her had to red, white and blue wreaths to mark VE Day on Friday, with proceeds going to Age UK West Cumbria. She has also donated some to town care homes and the hospital.

"I'm so humbled by the response and really pleased, it's great to be able to do something," said Lindsey.

The bows can be bought at Firn's Home Hardware and Slatefell Stores.
