CUMBRIA'S hospitals have had a day when they reported no more Covid-19 deaths, new figures show.

At the NHS trusts with hospitals in Carlisle, Whitehaven and Barrow, the total number of fatalities currently stands at 303.

North Cumbria Integrated Care Foundation Trust - which runs The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven - has confirmed the deaths of 146 patients since the pandemic began.

Over the same period, more than 200 Covid-19 patients treated at the two hospitals have recovered and been discharged.

At University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust, which is in charge of Furness General Hospital another hospital in Lancaster, the death toll remains 157, with no deaths reported for five consecutive days.

There have been an estimated 167 deaths caused by coronavirus in the county's care homes.

Across the UK, the virus has now killed more than 36,600 people.
