POLICE were called out to a north Carlisle housing estate after fed-up residents rang them to complain about an illegal and noisy late-night hot tub party.

The incident, which happened in Kirrimuir Way, Etterby, is one of the more unusual examples of how some people in north Cumbria, frustrated with lockdown restrictions, have broken the rules in order to socialise.

In a statement, Cumbria police confirmed that their officers intervened to break up the illegal gathering on April 29.

A spokeswoman said: “At around 10.38pm police received a report of a party happening in the garden of a property on Kirrimuir Way, Etterby, Carlisle, which involved numerous people who were reported to have been shouting in the garden and onto the street.

“Officers attended and one woman who did not live at the address was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.”

A hot tub was involved, added the spokeswoman.

In recent weeks, police across the county have fined numerous people who have rebelled against the lockdown restrictions, potentially putting others and themselves at risk of coronavirus. They included:

• A man caught on April 19 at somebody else’s address in Whitehaven dying his friend’s hair. He claimed not to be aware he was breaking the Covid-19 lockdown rules.

• On the same day, a man in his 30s from Glasgow was stopped on the A686 near Penrith at 11am after driving from Glasgow to confront someone about a purchase made over Facebook.

• Another Whitehaven man, in his 40s, who had already been warned and urged to return home, was spotted in Peter Street in Whitehaven, drinking.

• A man in his 30s, from Manchester, found in Penrith Road, Keswick, on April 22. He was planning a 25-minute walk.

• On 23 April a man in his 20s from Lancaster was stopped on the A591 at Ings at around 5pm. He told officers he was travelling to Cumbria for sight-seeing and to enjoy the views. He was advised this was not appropriate and to return home.

• On 22 April officers attended an address in Broughton Road in Dalton-in-Furness for a third time in the same evening following reports of a party on-going. On the third occasion two women from South Cumbria received fixed penalty notices when they were found to not live at the address and refused to leave.

• On 19 April three people from the Wigan area – a man aged in his 30s, a man aged in his 20s and a woman aged in her 20s – were stopped on the A593 in the Ambleside area at 7.30pm. They were found to have travelled up from Wigan for sight-seeing.
