Katie James and Patrick Vaughan had known each other since school, but it wasn’t until they met again during a night out at Grasslot Welfare for Battle of the Bands that their relationship started.
Katie, who works at Robinson+co, and gas engineer Patrick, live in Maryport.
Patrick proposed in 2015 while on holiday in Uganda.
Katie said: “Patrick proposed in 2015 at Wild Waters Lodge, on an island in the middle of the River Nile while on holiday in Uganda.
“He proposed on the balcony of our room with the water of the Nile rushing behind us, Patrick getting down on one knee.”
The couple married on May 20, with the number 20 having a special meaning to the bride, with the last three generations of her family marrying on the 20th day of the month.
The venue of their special day was All Souls Church, Maryport, followed by a reception at Blaithwaite House, Wigton.
The bride and her dad walked down the aisle to her grandparent’s favourite song, Nat King Cole’s When I fall in love.
The groom wore a lapel pin close to his heart with a photo of his late grandparents and the bride wore a sixpence of Patrick’s nana’s in her shoe that was gifted to her.
Katie said: “We had friends travelling to Cumbria for our wedding from all around the world, Uganda, Nairobi, America, Denmark, Sweden as well as from all over the UK.
“The bridal party and many guests stayed at Blaithwaite House from the Thursday before the wedding to Monday, making it a whole weekend of celebrations. Blaithwaite House felt like a home from home during our wedding weekend and that is thanks to Kate and Malcolm as well as their staff who helped us create the wedding perfect for us.
“We also held an after wedding party for the guests to reconvene on the Sunday in the barn catered by Maryport Tandoori and involving continued celebrations, singing and dancing.”
Katie wore a two-piece dress: a corset and fish tail skirt with a long veil for the ceremony and reception, from London Bridal Couture, then changing the skirt into a short tulle skirt for the evenings dancing.
The bridal party’s hair and beauty were done by Yasmin Chloe Hair Design and Rebecca Jones Makeup Artist.
Groomsmen were Paul Vaughan, Patrick’s brother, Nick James, Katie’s brother, Gary Armstrong, groom’s cousin, Liam James, the bride’s cousin and friends Ben Carter and Matthew Burns.
Bridesmaid’s were Katie’s cousins Lucy Eagle and Hannah Eagle, friends Tasha Frazer, Lindsay Gray and Charlotte Dell and the groom’s sister Emma Burns.
The flowers chosen for the day were bright colourful roses, based on flowers the couple were given following their engagement in Africa.
The bride and groom’s car was a Rolls Royce Ghost while the bridesmaids and the groomsmen’s a Hummer Limo.
The couple had 120 day guests and 40 additional evening guests.
They enjoyed champagne, beers and canapés in the stunning house and grounds of Blaithwaite House following the ceremony. They then headed into the barn for the wedding breakfast, speeches and dancing.
In the evening, a pizza oven arrived to keep all the guest fuelled for the ongoing party.
In place of favours, the newlyweds made a donation to Awstin’s Fund: Living with Duchenne.
The wedding cake was a tiered cheese cake provided by Fell and Dales Catering. There was a Tiered sponge cake made by Yummies of Wigton and topped with wedding flowers and ‘his and her’ figures from a craft village in Uganda.
The first dance was to Westlife’s As Love is my Witness.
Glen Anderson provided the entertainment. Katie said: “He sang during our wedding breakfast creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere, with a little dancing between courses.
“He also learnt our first dance song and the father/daughter song - Jimmy Justice, When my little girl is smiling especially for our day and continued his entertainment into the night with a great party atmosphere.”
For their honeymoon, the couple jetted to Sri Lanka and the Maldives
Capturing the day was photographer Gavin Jacob Powers.
