A TALENTED team of athletic youngsters are raising money to compete in the United States.

The Consett-based club, Derwent Valley Allstars, is raising funds to attend the Cheerleading World Championships and The Summit (Junior Worlds) in Orlando, Florida.

Collectively, through July, both Reign, the world level five team, and Notorious, the junior level two team, will be walking a total distance of 4,240 miles, the distance from Consett to Orlando.

While in America both teams will have to hire local training spaces, which can cost up to $100 per hour, to perfect their routine and do their best to represent the club, the North-East and the country

The event are the two of the most prestigious events in cheerleading.

Jaz Newton, from Derwent Valley Allstars, said: “Our 30 athletes aged between ten and 29 have trained very hard to be selected to attend these events and attendance at these events is by no means cheap.

“We would appreciate any and all sponsors to help get our athletes across the pond.

“Please visit our GoFundMe page “DVA International Teams Walk to Orlando” to make any donations. If any companies would like to be an official sponsor of one of our teams, please get in touch by emailing derwentvalleyallstars@gmail.com or call 0785-324-1641.”
