Another coronavirus patient has died in Cumbria as the county's death toll rose again
The number of fatalities at the NHS trust which runs The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven is now 158 as the trust confirmed that a patient died on Tuesday.
No more deaths were reported by the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust, which runs Furness General Hospital and a number of other hospitals, as the number of deaths stands at 166.
In the county's care homes, the number of coronavirus fatalities is currently thought to be 223.
The COVID-19 death toll in the county is now 547, while nationally the toll has passed 43,000.
Colin Cox, Cumbria's director of public health, warned the confirmation of another death was a reminder that people should continue to do everything they can to protect themselves and others.
He said: "The things that we can all do are social distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene.
"What this does show is of course that it hasn't gone away and we may be easing lockdown measures but the virus is still out there and circulating."
