THE five play areas in Cockermouth will all open on Saturday – with safety instructions in place.

The town council will open the areas at Memorial Gardens, Towers Lane, Greyrigg Avenue, Harris Park Extension and Isel Road.

Clerk Sheila Brown said: “Detailed instructions regarding usage will be placed strategically on all sites.”

The instructions state: “The equipment is checked daily for damage, wear and tear, but it is NOT sanitised or disinfected. This is shared, publicly accessible equipment, used at your own risk.”

It encourages everyone to wash their hands with sanitiser before and after using the play area.

“Some equipment can only be used by one child at a time whilst social distancing. Please ensure your children wait at a safe distance if the equipment is in use or return later to use the equipment," the guidance adds.
