A HEARTBROKEN family have paid tribute to a beautiful mother who died just two days after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Rebecca Hurst, of Whitehaven, has been described as an amazing woman and brilliant mum, dedicated to her children who were her world.

But their world was turned upside down after the 39-year-old went to the doctors in seemingly good health on a Friday afternoon – only to be given a terminal breast cancer diagnosis.

She was told she only had a few weeks to live but tragically died just two days later on Sunday, June 14.

Her devastated cousin Natasha Blackwell has now set up a GoFundMe page to buy something special for Rebecca's two children Harvey and Gracie.

With people not allowed to go to the funeral due to coronavirus restrictions, she was hoping people would instead make a contribution to allow the youngsters a special treat.

This fund has since raised more than £7000. Natasha said: “Becca was amazing, our hearts are broken and it doesn’t feel real that we will no longer be able to see her.

“She was brilliant, we all loved her so much.

“We were so shocked it happened so quickly, we just didn’t know it [cancer] was lurking in the background.

“The children were the most important parts of her life, she was beautiful stubborn and brave. She would help anyone if she could.

“She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, she loved making memories and heading out onto the fells.

“I don’t think her death really hit until the funeral, I realised we would never be able to see her again.

“All the children have now is the memories they made together.

“We’re trying to do our best for Harvey and Gracie and that is what the fund is for.

“I can’t believe how much it has raised it just show how much she was loved and by so many people.”

Despite not being able to attend the funeral service, the people of West Cumbria still came out in force to say their goodbyes.

Dozens of people celebrated her life and lined the roads to watch her funeral procession go by just so they would be able to take part.
