Events organisations across the country are thrilled with talks of a £1.75 billion rescue package to support theatres and music venues – and a west Cumbrian business is one of them.

Thousands of companies across every sector, from performing arts, theatres, heritage, historic places, museums and galleries to live music and independent cinema will be offered a cut of the emergency grants and loans.

And Gosforth-based Platinum Live is one of those welcoming the support with open arms.

In response to Sunday's announcement, Oliver Hodgson, managing director of Platinum Live, said: “This is very welcome to all in the cultural, arts, heritage and live music sectors.

“We work at various fantastic venues in the county with some of the most incredible artistes and creatives most of whom are freelance, who we hope this provides reassurance to."

Platinum Live provides event support and communications services to theatre producers, venues, fellow event companies and local festivals throughout the year, particularly over the summer.

And with all events on-hold during lockdown, Oliver can't wait to see the industry back in full swing.

He added: “Theatres and music venues in Cumbria are quite simply beautiful, some small, some large and they are all ran by lovely people.

“There is a great amount of theatre and music professionals tucked up in the Lakes and they are some of the best in the business.

“I am personally excited to get back to these venues to both work at, and to enjoy the shows and events.”
