WITH lockdown slowly but surely coming to an end, readers are thinking of the best ways to shed some pounds.

This week we’ve asked people to recommend the best gyms or fitness classes in the Workington area, to help them get back in shape.

At the moment coronavirus regulations mean they remain shut, many however still provide online classes – but the opening of barbers shops, hairdressers and bars at the weekend means they could be back in business in the not-too-distant future.

Here then, in no particular order, are some of the places recommended by you, the readers.

1 XTREME FITNESS, DOBIES BUSINESS PARK, LILLYHALL WEST

A very popular establishment with readers.

Tyler Louise Wise posted: “They have an amazing team there that make you feel welcome and confident. Although the gym has been closed they’ve managed to keep us going with their support and help.

“Can’t wait for them to open back up especially now they’ve upgraded to a bigger space.”

Michael Craig said: “I’d recommend them unreservedly.

“Not just a gym, it’s a family.

“They fundraise, set challenges, provide motivation and not to mention do some of the most awesomely crazy stuff.”

Matthew Earl said: "For the best all round gym facilities, weight loss programs and client support. It's got to be Xtreme Fitness."

2 NW FITNESS, BRIDGE END INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, EGREMONT

Karen Smith said: “NW fitness in Egremont – been there five years now and love it. I wouldn’t train anywhere else.”

3 MOKYFIT, ONLINE: SHAMEEM.FIT, WEST CUMBRIA

Another with an army of loyal followers.

Sarah Terry said: “Mokyfit with Shameem was brilliant and great fun before lockdown, and the free online classes have been an absolute lifesaver.

“Forget Joe Wicks – Shameem and Mat always put a smile on our faces and keep everyone’s spirits up even on rainy days.”

Vicky Earl said: “She kept me sane through out lockdown with the free live classes she does.

“Being a subscriber, I have been able to continue any of the live archived classes at a time that suits me.

“I vote shameem.fit and think everyone should give it a go as they are free and she will continue to do them through this difficult time.”

4 SOULBOX PILATES & YOGA, QUEEN STREET, WHITEHAVEN

Comes highly recommended by reader Sophie Reed.

Angela Todd added: “It’s an amazing place, offering a great range of classes, love the place.”

5 TRACEY TELFER FITNESS, SCHOOL BROW, MORESBY PARKS, WHITEHAVEN

These fitness classes have a legion of fans.

Charlotte Wood said: “Ever since lockdown began, Tracey adapted her fitness classes to online classes.

“The range of classes she runs are amazing.

“Tracey is such a fantastic motivator, it has been a pleasure participating in her classes.”
