Trader of the week: well established family chip shop

The family business has been at the heart of the community for 25 years and is a firm favourite in the town for pizza, kebabs and traditional fish and chips.

Tuncay Denli, and dad Tony, have been at the helm, helping residents by delivering food during the coronavirus crisis.

The takeaway on King Street has long been a firm favourite with residents and has lots of glowing Tripadvisor reviews.

It’s the go to place for a range of tasty dishes made to order.

And it’s the only place in the town that does all three together.

Tony took over the running of the takeaway when he came from Turkey a quarter of a century ago.

Tuncay said: “We have been here for a long time and the people, customers are really friendly and we get a lot of trade from families.

“We are not on the internet or anything, we have a Facebook page, but nowadays we get most of our orders over the phone, we think it is all about customer service.

“We do it all, fish and chips, pizza and kebab – no one else in Workington does all three, just us.

“We do deliveries and collections, we opened right through the coronavirus because it did not affect takeaways as much as other places as much.

“During that time we raised money for the NHS and key workers and made contributions to places like care homes.

“We’ve been here for 25 years but some of the customers tell us that there has been a shop here for more than 50 years.

“We have customers that keep on coming back to us which is great.

“A lot of our customers are regulars but we get people coming from all over including places like Cockermouth and Maryport as well as people just passing through.

“The customers in the area are very loyal, they seem to go from generation to generation.

“We are open from 4pm to 12pm most days but the coronavirus did change things."
