Permission has been granted to construct a new village pub play area.

The play area will be constructed at The Bush Inn, at Kirkbride, after the granting of planning permission by Allerdale Council.

The plans were well supported across the local area, including Workington's MP Mark Jenkinson.

Writing in support of the application, he said: "I am a strong advocate of local pubs.

"I have many villages within my constituency that rely on their village pub as a place of community.

"I strongly support this application to increase the facilities of the local pub at Kirkbride, which will benefit the village and the surrounding area.

The application was also supported by Kirkbride Primary School.

A letter from the school's PTA said that the inn has "become central to village life since it has reopened, running numerous family events, and refurbishing the dining area to allow for families to visit with their children in comfortable surroundings.

"The creation of a play area for the children to use would be a fantastic addition to the pub and the village as a whole."
