The Cumbrian Socialist Party is holding a stall in Workington as part of its campaign Rebuild our NHS.

The stall will be held in the town's shopping centre on Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

Passers-by will be asked to sign a petition.

A spokesman for the organisation said: "We think the nurses and all NHS and social care staff should be given a proper ‘thank you’ with an immediate 10 per cent pay rise and a well-earned rest.

"Our petition also calls for the staff shortfall of 100,000 in the NHS and 122,000 in social care to be filled, with an expansion of medical and nursing student places and scrapping student fees.

"We now need the resources to rebuild the NHS, with a budget of at least 11 per cent of national income like other European countries"

The organisation believes the Government was not well prepared for the coronavirus pandemic, leading to issues including PPE shortages.

They are also criticising the handling of the track and trace programme.
