A SERVING Royal Marine has put his training into practice and completed a 96-mile trail in just 30 hours.
John Hewetson, from Workington and former comrade David McGregor, did the West Highland Way, a feat usually tackled over five to seven days.
“We had aimed for 23 and a half hours but David developed a knee injury so we had to slow down.”
Mr Hewetson, 30, joined the Marines when he was just 17 and has served all over the world, including Afghanistan.
He was running/walking for a charity much closer to home, however.
“Skyla, my partner Cheryl’s little girl has autism," he said.
“Cheryl has a lot to do with Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland and I have been on outings and things with them and see the great work they do in supporting people and their families.
“Cheryl and my mum and an aunt took sponsorship forms around their work and friends and we raised £2,170.
“I was delighted.”
