A TEENAGER had a close call when he suffered heat exhaustion near Helvellyn.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called at 8.30pm on Sunday when the young male became unwell.

He one of a group of three walking to the summit to camp overnight.

A spokesman for the team said: "The combination of carrying a heavy rucksack and camping gear combined with the warm weather caused the casualty to become very unwell.

"A group of passers-by assisted the teenagers and then made called 999.

"20 team members turned out and located the casualty who was treated for his symptoms on the fell and then stretchered back down to the valley where his family were waiting to take the group back home.

The team reminded walkers of the need to plan for weather conditions.
