Police are investigating after bikes were stolen from a car roof.

Two bicycles have been stolen from a car parked at Whinlatter Forest Park near Keswick.

The incident took place between 12pm and 2pm on Saturday (September 12).

The owners of the bikes were walking in the forest, close to the visitor's centre, when the theft took place.

The road bikes – one a Giant Propel and the other a Giant Avail – were attached to cycle carriers, which were on the roof of the car.

It is believed those who took the bikes broke the locks on the cycle carriers, as they were locked at the time of the theft.

The total value of the stolen items comes to £4,600.

Officers are urging anyone with information, or dashcam footage from the time of the incident, to come forward.

Anyone with details that could help with the investigation is asked to call PC 1581 Gorse on 101, or contact police via email at email 101@cumbria.police.uk.

Alternatively, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting log 114 of September 12.
