Celebrating the efforts and successes of people in the community is a staple for local newspapers and this month 15 years ago was no exception.
Among the many stories featured in the local news were the results of an Aspatria Town Council competition which saw green-fingered residents and businesses awarded for their efforts to make their gardens and shops bright and cheery.
Egremont Crab Fair saw Distington's Kath Taylor crowned Women's World Gurning Champion, while the West Cumberland Hospital's diabetes department benefited from the proceeds of a sponsored walk from the village to Workington and Back.
They were just some of the successes featured during the month, alongside regular sporting fixtures and other local news.
