A calendar has been created for Workington Rotary in memory of "Mr Workington" Rotary member John Head.

Richard Ashcroft, Washington Square Town Centre manager and Rotary member, began taking photographs on his daily walks with his dog Roby.

He captured views, flowers and everything he saw on the walk. Bryan Rowe said the pictures were a tonic to everyone that was shut at home during lockdown.

Bryan said: "Members joked that we should do a calendar. Then as time went on we joked about which photographs would make it onto the calendar."

After talking to friends at POD Graphic Design the rotary decided to go ahead and produce the calendar, and dedicate it in memory of the well-respected rotary member, John Head, who died from Covid-19 at the beginning of lockdown.

The calendar they have made is sponsored by POD Graphic Design, has been done by Workington Rotary and is in John's memory.

Bryan added: "Some of the months have two, three or even six photographs on, they are depicting scenes around Workington and they are excellent."

He is hopeful of getting the calendars back from print this weekend, but they have already sold 400 of the 500 that are being printed already.

They are being sold at £5 each, or people can order them by mail for £7 and they will be posted out.

They will also be available at Debenham's, Sinclairs, the Carnegie and St Michael's Church in Workington.

Bryan added: "There is a sunset at the back of the calendar saying why we are doing it and a stone that Keith Beattie did for John, which was part of the Seaton stone collection.

"It has this year's rotary symbol of three open doors on it."

He also added that POD have been very generous and printed the first 500 for them free of charge.

The club will print more calendars if there is demand.

Bryan said: "John's heart was in the community. He was Mr Workington." All the money from the calendars will go back into the community.
