A WEST Cumbrian engineering company has received high praise by a local MP for its proactive strategy when dealing with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

McMenon Engineering Services’ was applauded by Mark Jenkinson, Conservative MP for Workington, during a site visit to the Cumbrian manufacturer of flow meters and measurement instrumentation.

Mr Jenkinson said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the staff and apprentices at McMenon Engineering Services – and to see how they have managed through careful planning to thrive and adapt to new ways of working in very challenging trading conditions.

“I am impressed that the company exports to more than 60 countries, but there is scope for even greater success and I welcome the investment in the next generation of home-grown engineers through its ambitious apprenticeship programme.

“It was a privilege to visit a local company doing well in difficult times, with a clear sense of direction whilst creating potential for the future.”

Anand Puthran, CEO at McMenon, said he appreciated the opportunity to engage with the MP at their Salterbeck Trading Estate site.

He added: “We thank Mark for taking time to find out how we are dealing with the challenges of the pandemic where health and safety is of paramount importance. Like McMenon, Mark is passionate about promoting positive stories about products being ‘Made in Cumbria’. We are extremely proud to be a company with deep roots in the region – one that manufactures products used locally, nationally and internationally.

“We are also pleased Mark recognises our commitment to the next generation through the apprenticeship programme. Our strategy and the sterling efforts of our team have put us in a good place. We will continue to invest in the business and develop the opportunities for McMenon in Cumbria and further afield.”

McMenon specialises in the design and manufacture of differential pressure flow meters such as orifice plates, averaging pitot tubes, wedge meters, nozzles, Venturi meters (topside and subsea) as well as variable area flow meters and temperature monitoring equipment.
