A MAN has been ordered to pay more than £170 after he was found in possession of drugs and obstructed a police officer.

David James Greggain admitted obstructing PC 2533 Steele in Workington on August 3.

He also admitted being in possession of the class A drug diamorphine on the same day.

Greggain, of Lady Court in Workington, appeared before Carlisle's magistrates' court on Saturday.

He was represented during the hearing by duty solicitor Mike Woolaghan.

The court fined the 41-year-old £140 for the drugs possession charge and ordered him to pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services.

No separate penatly was issued for obstructing a police officer. The forfeiture and destruction of the drugs was also ordered.

Greggain must pay the full balance by October 24.

The defendant's guilty plea was considered when passing sentence.

However, the court concluded that the defendant is an existing defaulter and the existing default(s) could not be ignored.
