A CUMBRIAN poultry farm, described as a 'cracking business opportunity', has come on the market.

The 156,000-bird poultry broiler unit, located close to Wigton, is being sold by private treaty at a guide price of £850,000.

The four broiler units, each with their own feed towers and ancillary control room, are located on a 3.78-acre site. With concrete hardstanding and gravelled areas between units, the modern site has three phase electricity and a metered mains water supply.

H&H Land & Estates, who are marketing the poultry unit, say that this represents an unusual opportunity and would be ideal for buyers seeking a new business venture.

Thomas Armstrong, director and chartered surveyor for H&H Land & Estates, said: “Offering the tremendous chance for someone to start their own poultry farm business, this fully operational broiler unit is ready to walk into and begin production. Farming opportunities such as this coming on to the open market really are few and far between.

“The site, equipment and four modern units are all in excellent condition and have been very well looked after. Given the potential this enterprise offers and the site’s proximity to Carlisle and the M6, we are anticipating that the poultry unit will have great appeal to those looking for a new or additional business venture.”

On site are five 4,000 litre Calor gas tanks and a 100KVA diesel operated generator. There is a fully operational drainage system in place to settlement tanks and filter beds to the rear of the field. Measuring 240ft x 80ft each, every broiler unit is fitted with multi fans and either internal or external heaters.

The wind turbines on the site are excluded from the sale.
