Plans to extend sports changing rooms may be stalled after Covid.

Aspatria Junior Football club has asked the town council for permission to raise funds to extend the council-owned changing rooms at St Mungo’s Park.

The club wants to build a storage room and a community area where tea and coffee could be served.

Councillor Alan Reay said the club caters for children of all ages - “some of them barely on their feet yet”.

But he said it was more complicated than just giving blanket permission.

“For a start, this is a public asset,” he said. “Even if the club raises the money the facility would not belong just to it.”

Mr Reay moved that no decision be made until club members could meet a full council, once face-to-face meetings are again possible.

“Then they can put their case to us and we can consider it properly,” he said.

The council has agreed to wait.
