Wednesdays are wheelie, wheelie fun for some pupils
Ewanrigg Junior School, in Maryport has introduced Wheelie Wednesdays when children can play on their bikes, scooters, Heely’s, skateboards and roller blades during playtimes.
Assistant head Helen Chilton said: “The initiative started after the success of the school's participation in yearly ‘The Big Pedal’.
"Students are taught about the importance of road safety and wearing a helmet, this has resulted in a 100% uptake on children wearing helmets when cycling to school. This is a fantastic achievement, as far too often local children are seen cycling without helmets on roads and pavements.
“Wheelie Wednesday has encouraged children to get more active and has had a positive impact on their health. This is especially important after children may have had months of inactivity during lockdown."
