Traders have been warned as a standards agency clamps on the sale of fake cigarettes.

Trading Standards carried out surprise visits to places believed to be selling counterfeit cigarettes in Copeland.

A spokesman for Cumbria police, who assisted, said: “Our officers conducted a joint operation with Trading Standards yesterday targeting premises believed to be selling counterfeit cigarettes. This work is part of an ongoing operation to target this type of fraudulent activity.

“If you think a business has broken the law or acted unfairly, you can report them to Trading Standards.

“Trading Standards use the information you give them to investigate unfair trading and illegal business activity, like rogue traders and scams.
