One charity is celebrating the news of a very special gift – and it’s all thanks to the public’s support.

As part of specialist insurer Ecclesiastical’s annual 12 days of giving Christmas campaign, a total of 120 charities were picked at random from those nominated by people across the UK.

And Workington’s Carnegie Theatre Trust was one of the lucky winners, receiving a £1,000 cut of £120,000.

The popular group provides a diverse and accessible range of top-notch arts and leisure activities for all.

And with 1,890 Cumbrians nominating 25 charities across the county, it’s clear that everyone in Workington and beyond appreciates its priceless work.

Lee Martin-White, chairman at the Carnegie Theatre Trust, said: “The £1,000 will make a substantial difference to our charity.

“Maintenance of the listed building is a significant cost for us. This funding will enable us to improve the theatre and positively impact all those who use it.”

Thanking supporters in Cumbria, Mark Hews, group CEO at Ecclesiastical, said: “Our core purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, so charitable giving is at the heart of our business.

“We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this boost will change lives for the better.

“We hope these donations can bring a positive end to a difficult year, and a promising start to 2021.”
