A serious crash has closed part of the A66 near to Stainton, Penrith.
Police have closed the road between Penruddock and Rheged while they are dealing with the "serious road traffic collision on the A66 near to Stainton, Penrith."
Motorists are being advised to find an alternative route.
Cumbria Police have said that the road could be closed for some time.
A spokesman posted on social media: "Highways England are now implementing road closures at Penruddock and Rheged, the road will be closed for some time and we are advising people to avoid the area if possible."
