A CONTRACT worth £25m for three “autonomous minesweeping systems”, to bolster the Royal Navy, has been announced.

The Combined Influence Minesweeping system, designed by Dorset-based Atlas Elektronik UK, will be the service’s first “uncrewed” minesweeper according to a Government statement yesterday.

It will allow the Navy to neutralise mines remotely and from a safe distance while on operations.

Defence Minister Jeremy Quin said: “The technology will be instrumental to protecting the safety and security of our personnel, while also reaffirming the UK’s commitment to improve the safety of international waters.”
