A MOTHER of two is developing her creative side with a home-made business.

Jane Wilson opened Jane’s Cakes and Bakes after having children, with the business giving her an outlet for her creativity outside of her part-time day job as a cleaner.

She said: “I started it after having my boys, making celebration cakes for my nieces and nephews.”

Jane’s creations led to calls from friends and family to start up a business selling her baked treats.

“I’m keeping busy with it. I could probably do it full time if I wanted to,” she said.

Jane operates the business from home, offering collections of her celebration cakes.

“I don’t think I could expand it anymore than I have,” she said, because she would have to look at purchasing premises if the business were to expand any further.

“I’m busy enough to do it from home but it works around the family as well.”

The community has supported Jane’s Cakes and Bakes despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the business running since 2016.

“It’s been great. It’s built up nicely. We’ve been quite busy and obviously Covid has had a bit of an impact. Not as many people are getting cakes because they’re not having parties, so it has been a bit quieter than usual.”

Jane bakes for birthdays or any special occasion with a theme for each one along with flamboyant decorations.

A recent creation was a Pixar-themed birthday cake with decorations of the iconic characters and Monster’s Inc themed icing.

Boxes of themed home-made cup cakes are also available.

“I help my best friend out with her catering business as well,” said Jane.

She has also joined her sister in launching the Temon Farm Milk Barn brand from Low Row, Brampton.

Jane posts pictures of her latest creations with updates about the business on the Jane’s Cakes and Bakes Facebook page.
