THE owners of a much-loved fish and chip shop have decided to sell up and embark on a new adventure.

Karen Badger, alongside her husband Dave, has run the Jolly Fryer in Burneside for over thirteen years but says it is now time to pursue other things.

The business will remain open and continue serving customers until new owners are found.

“We’ve decided to have a change,” said Mrs Badger, from Kendal.

“There’s nothing wrong with the business at all, it’s a lovely business to run.

“I just need to do something different in life now.

“We’ve added our own things to the business like offering a choice of fish and there’s still plenty of room for expansion.

“But it’s time for someone else to add the new ideas.”

Mrs Badger, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, says she will remember her time running the business with fondness and commented on the amazing community feel in the village.

“It’s been lovely. We’ve got some regular customers that you can have a really good chat with, they know you,” said Mrs Badger.

“It’s a real village feel.

“We’ve seen kids grow up, people coming in pregnant and the little ones are grown up now.

“To be a part of that is lovely.

“And the locals have supported us.

"We rely on the regular customers and they’ve really stepped up to the mark.”

The business has now been listed on Poole Townsend for £180,000 and Mrs Badger hopes the business could remain as a fish and chip shop.

“It would be nice if it did,” she said.

“If someone wants to buy it we’ve offered to stay on for a couple of weeks and train them up and share what we know if they want to keep it as a chip shop.

“I think you need decent fish and chip shops in the community.”

The businesswoman has thanked the community and her staff for all their support, and gave special mention to her sons Harry and Sam Badger.

“I’d like to thank all the customers and staff past and present who have supported us over the years,” she said.

“And a special thank you to our two sons for their support especially when we’ve come home smelling of fish and chips.”
