A CHURCH raised more than £1,000 for a dementia charity by providing ‘Lent lunches’ for the community.

During the six weeks of Lent, St Thomas’ church in Milnthorpe delivered lunches to members, relatives and friends of St. Thomas, St. Peter’s, Heversham and St. John’s, Levens.

The lunches consisted of soup and a roll, a choice of desserts or cheese and biscuits, and delivered for £5.

The lunches were prepared and donated by members of St. Thomas’ and generous donations were received by the congregations.

Reverend Bryan Kerr handed over the cheque for £1,100 to Dignity in Dementia on March 31.

Church warden Val Robson said: “Many of the recipients of the lunches said it was the highlight of their week as they had not seen anybody.

“The money will go towards a project where clients with dementia working alongside a horticulturist grow flowers to give as a thank you to friends and loved ones.”
