WHETHER it’s crispy duck, chicken chow mein, or pork dumplings, most of us love Chinese cuisine.
In Cumbria, we are blessed with a number of top takeaways and restaurants which serve up a range of popular dishes.
During lockdown, some places have decided to close down for the duration while others have continued to offer delivery or a collection service within Government regulations on social distancing.
This week we asked readers on Facebook to nominate their favourite Chinese food outlets in the Workington area and tell us why their meals are so good as restaurants look towards reopening next month
We have compiled the best places in the county, in no particular order, to check out.
1: WONG’S TAKEAWAY, SENHOUSE STREET, MARYPORT
The takeaway is very popular with residents and has recently reopened with a delivery and collection service.
On Facebook the owners said: “Since we have opened on Wednesday, we have been truly overwhelmed with everyone’s comments and support.
“Our fantastic staff have responded excellently to the new measures in place."
It delivers to Maryport, Dearham, Flimby, Crosby and Broughton Moor.
It also states that all orders are to be made by phone and that collections and deliveries are done in accordance with Government guidelines.
Reader Elvin Elvo Jarvis posted on Facebook: “Wongs Chinese in Maryport is excellent. The food is fantastic, especially the mixed meat curry – pleased it’s back open.”
2: KOWLOON CHINESE TAKEAWAY, MAIN ROAD, SEATON
According to the takeaway’s website “the takeaway in Seaton is a family-run business since 1989 which attracts customers from as far as Whitehaven and Aspatria.”
Reader Paul Bragg recommends the sweet and sour chicken.
3: HOT WOKS OF KOWLOON, HARRINGTON ROAD, WORKINGTON
Owned by the people as the Kowloon Chinese Takeaway, it has proved a hit with reader Heidi Hilland.
The fast-food joint has wowed people on Tripadvisor.
One customer said: “Best Chinese takeaway I’ve had from both takeaways owned by the same people.
“Hygiene is second to none and the food is gorgeous.”
4: PEARL GARDEN, WOOD STREET, MARYPORT
Reader Susan Sharp gives the takeaway the thumbs-up.
5: PEKING EXPRESS, FINKLE STREET, WORKINGTON
The takeaway has a number of good reviews on Tripadvisor.
One customer, before lockdown, said: “Ordered over the phone, staff really friendly and food ready to pick up in 10 minutes. We had two mains, two sides and spring rolls, all were delicious. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced.”
Another said: “Lovely food, great service. The best in Workington town by far.”
